After more than 60 valuations, exit strategy programs and supporting transactions and negotiations Exit Value Advisers will soon be closing off another year. In reflection we have been excited to work with such a variety of clients, colleagues and associates.
2019 will see new processes, thought leadership and ideas emerge, including:
A new approach to tracking value and the cost of capital for SMEs.
A more detailed connection between competitive advantage and valuation.
An innovative network through which to facilitate investment.
New staff resources and valuation tools.
But for now I am reflecting on wins and successes. And I am reminded of something I often found myself repeating the speech Rocky gave to his son in Rocky Balboa and taking solace and motivation.
It is simple, plain, straight forward, hard hitting and helps me dig deep.
But recently I have found more determination, softness, complexity and power in the eloquent words from Tennyson that M (head of MI6 in Bond films) recited in the movie Skyfall:
"Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and though We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
What I have related to more is the reference of "that which we are, we are". It reminds me of the importance of being in the moment and accepting ourselves - the message of mindfulness.
So coming up to the end of a challenging and rewarding year I am reminded of these words more and more, and look forward to another year of "not yielding, seeking, striving" and "keep moving forward and winning".
Thank you to all my clients, colleagues, mentors and followers and looking forward to a big 2019.
